Long time ago Barangay Tarangotong never existed. It was at that time a forestry area. The ancestors of the Barangay Tarangotong came from the Barangay Sawat, which is the Barangay bounded the Barangay Tarangotong on the east.

There was a time that the Layco brothers from Barangay Sawat who were the ancestors of the people in Barangay Tarangotong, once feel that they are crowded in their place in Barangay Sawat. Because of that they went north and found this area the Barangay Tarangotong. They clean and subdivided the place. The area one had cleaned belongs to him (bagi na dalusan na).  Before they called the place San Felipe.

But there was a time that the people are gathering big rocks, to build dike, and was called “tong-tong”. Then because almost people here making “tong-tong” they decided to change the name of the Barangay, which is Tarangotong which is derived from the word “tong-tong”.
