No one knows exactly how the Barangay got its present name “Lubnac”. But there is a story related by an old resident of Lubnac perhaps one of the earliest residents of the Barangay that was previously called “CASAGATAN” (Where molave tree grows).
During the early part the Spanish regime in the Philippines there were no good roads for traveling. Cars as a means of traveling by merchants from the low lands where lured by high prices of commodities in the town of Cervantes and other places in the mountain.
There was once a time during the rainy season when a group of merchants from the northern section of La Union northward at the foot of mountain where people and animals used to travel. They had difficulty in traveling the muddy trail especially when they reached Casagatan where there as lot of mud on the road. They then called this place as “CALUBNACAN” From that time, the Barangay called by the name LUBNAC.
