The exact founding of Barangay Lacong was still a fiction. In fact, the story was known from the tales of the early folklores who settled this place during the Spanish period. The name “LACONG” was derived from the word “LAKUN” an Ilocano vernacular that means a group of people gathered together for the purpose of sharing and exchanging ideas with the group one after the other.

When a Spanish soldier came across and passed by over this group of people and asked what is the name of their place. Unknowingly that people cannot relate immediately with Spanish soldier about what he wants to know, instead the people answered “LAKUN”, Sir! “Whom they thought that the stranger wants to know about what is their business there.

After which, The Spaniard bear in mind that the name of this place was “LAKUNG” and when he returned back to the same place, he called the place as “BARRIO LACONG”. From then on, the place was named as Barrio Lacong, until it was officially registered as one of the barangays of the Municipality of Tagudin.

During the early settlement of residents in this Barrio or Barangay, it composed of only few households with a little number of family members and that Barangay Lacong was popularly known with some sitios like Sitio Almazan, this place was the road along the hillside, for the main passage way of all vehicles going In and Out Northern and Southern part of Tagudin, and nearby towns.

Other one is the Sitio Abkir, this sitio was a residential area. This Land was originally a semi-forest Land and was converted as Residential Land, where most financially stable residents belong.

Other portion was an Agricultural Land, where most of the farmers usually practiced their different ways in farming. And most families depend much on the products from the farm.

Nowadays, Barangay Lacong came into its own development, because of the presence of Commercial Establishments and other business centers that usually visible in a well-developed areas and that shows that Barangay Lacong follows a stable progress. The roads were now wholly cemented and it will link the gap from the farm to market activities that enhanced a big help to all the residents of this barangay.
