Long before and during Spanish regime, this place had been covered with various and countless trees towering the area.  Wild birds and other animals were abundantly seen.  Aside from trees, wild and thick vines like “uway” or rattan which was known to the natives of this place as “bugbug” made the place so green and shady.  These wild and valuable rattans or bugbug were very abundant.  Because of its importance and usefulness, the place became so popular.  People from all walks of like came to this place for adventure, hunting wild animals or to gather “bugbug”.  Visitors used to ask what the natives call these wonderful and peculiar vines.  The natives answered them “bugbug”.    Since then the place has been known as CABUGBUGAN.

This was how Cabugbugan got its name!
